Books given to the Savilian Library by three Savilian professors
A number of Savilian professors donated their books to Savilian the Library on their retirement. Sir Christopher Wren left his astronomy and geometry books to the Library when he retired from the professorship of astronomy; John Wallis, holder of the Chair of Geometry, gave some of his books in his lifetime, and after his death many more were presented by his son. Their names and monograms may be seen on the spines of their books. Other books apparently bear the monogram of Wren’s predecessor, Seth Ward. The Savilian Library is thus a very complete collection of mathematical works up to the end of the seventeenth century.
